Retro-blogging My Year in Japan
Way back in 2002, I took a leave of absence from my programming job at IBM and moved to Japan to teach English for a year. I initially purchased Sinderson.com during that year so that I could share some photos and record some of the things Katie and I did during our time in Asia.…

Fiffe Files
My buddy Michel Fiffe created a video series examining the work of famed comics artist Keith Giffen and asked if I’d like to help him with it. After getting all the cameras and software setup, Fiffe did his magic by going through just about everything Keith Giffen has ever printed. I then created an intro…

Not-A-Box
My good friend Paul gave our family the children’s book Not-A-Box (now a TV show?) back when our kids were babies. It was a favorite in his house and quickly became a favorite in ours. For Paul’s birthday this year, I drew him this card in the style of the book, but with the dark…

Comic-Con Poster
I had the pleasure of helping put on the 2nd annual PS 261 Comic-Con at my kid’s school once again this year. We had an amazing lineup of authors come to Brooklyn to talk with the community about creating their books. I made the logo (above) in the style of the old Uncanny X-Men logo.…

I Want A Puppy Dog
I made another music video for the guys over at Puppet Holiday. Though the Popcorn Monster video I made for them was released earlier, this was my first foray into animating a full music video. Originally, this was drawn as a companion picture book which I then cut up and animated. The colors and resolution…

Family Portrait
I auctioned off a family portrait as part of a fundraiser for my kids’ school. This was what I came up with for the winner. It was a real challenge!

Niam’s 3rd Birthday
I drew this for my friend’s son, Niam, who was really into sharks on his 3rd Birthday. Inspiration came from Jesse Lonergan’s brilliant Panda Shark.

Popcorn Monster Music Video
I illustrated and animated a music video for the children’s band, Puppet Holiday. What started as a 10 second loop of a popcorn monster chasing the Puppet Holiday characters Fin and Otis, evolved into a full music video complete with a Ska kernel playing sax. I enjoyed the unexpected challenge of figuring out the math…

Happy 2024!
I made our holiday cards by drawing a vector portrait image of our family and using an AxiDraw machine to custom make each card. Because I was limited only by the pens I used, I was able to get some fun, vibrant color combinations using gel pens.

2023 Media Recap – Books
I read 86 books this year (assuming you count listening to audiobooks as reading – which I do)! Most of the books fall under the category of easy reading – the kind that doesn’t take a lot of brain power so that I can enjoy them while drawing or walking around the neighborhood. Favorite Books…

2023 Media Recap – Movies
What a great year for movies! I had the privilege of being able to see so many films in the theater which was great for stirring my creativity. Here’s what I saw in chronological order: List of Movies Seen in the Theater Favorite Movies of 2023 (in no particular order)

2023 Media Recap – Music
I’m fortunate to have a job where I can listen to music while working at the computer or drawing table. As long as I’m not writing anything or trying too hard to solve a problem, I can use both parts of my brain at the same time and get in the flow. The only problem…

This Is What Democracy Looks Like?
For the 2022 midterm elections I spontaneously offered friends on social media to draw the animal of their choice if they voted. It started as a way to keep me from doom scrolling the fate of our democracy but ended up being pretty fun. These are the drawings redone digitally.
